Calm Launches Calm Sleep, New App At the Center of Its Expanded Sleep Ecosystem
The new app, retail products, and brand partnerships mark Calm’s next chapter: a full sleep ecosystem to bring ease, enjoyment, and real results to every part of the bedtime routine.
Palo Alto, CA (September 16, 2025) – Calm, a leading mental health company, today announced the launch of Calm Sleep, a new standalone app for deeper, more personalized sleep support. The app delivers daily plans with expert-backed tools and world-class content built to help people wind down, sleep deeply, and wake up refreshed. This marks the company’s first direct-to-consumer product since its flagship Calm app.
For many adults, bedtime has lost its magic. It’s become a time of endless scrolling, racing thoughts, and 3AM wake-ups, with some people even experiencing "orthosomnia", a form of sleep anxiety driven by an obsession with achieving perfect rest. The desire for better sleep is nearly universal – 92% of people report they want to improve their sleep quality. Yet most tools stop at insight, telling people they’re restless, but not how to fix it
“Calm is a global leader in sleep, with more than half our users already turning to us for rest and some of the most widely used content and tools on the market,” said Jon Tien, Chief Product Officer at Calm. “Now with Calm Sleep, we’re introducing a product built entirely around the sleep experience, from daytime habits to nighttime routines. We’re helping people feel more empowered in their sleep journey, not just more informed about it, bringing back a sense of ease and joy to bedtime.”
Calm’s foray into sleep began nearly ten years ago through the creation of Sleep Stories® – audio bedtime stories for adults and kids. Calm took a timeless ritual and gave it a modern twist, blending immersive storytelling with intentional music and narration. Since then, Sleep Stories have been played more than 1 billion times, becoming a key part of bedtime for millions. Now, with Calm Sleep, Calm is infusing that same sense of wonder and delight through the entire sleep experience, helping people build more mindful, enjoyable routines and feel better about their sleep.
Calm Sleep also offers a more actionable experience than most sleep tools, combining Calm’s beloved content with new features designed to prompt real change towards sleep goals. After a short onboarding questionnaire, each user receives a personalized sleep plan with recommended content and daily sleep-enhancing tasks in categories such as digital hygiene, exercise, stress reduction, and sleep environment. A unique “sleep readiness” bar increases as users complete tasks throughout the day, offering a visual cue to help build better habits and improve rest before their head hits the pillow. The app also syncs with wearables through Apple HealthKit, making it easier for users to take action on their sleep data.
At launch, Calm Sleep will feature new Sleep Stories from beloved radio host Delilah and actor Andrew Scott, alongside an existing library of over 300 hours of sleep content and 500 Sleep Stories. All new sleep content will have four weeks of exclusive availability on Calm Sleep before being released on Calm.
The launch of Calm Sleep marks a significant step in Calm’s broader investment in sleep, to support people through the entire bedtime experience with new partnerships, physical products, and experiences. Rolling out in the coming months:
